  1. [IMG]

    Hello All

I am in the process of purchasing the higher up property, as y'all tin can see where the crimson outline is, this sandstone type block/brick effect has been chipped.

I am but afterward some advice on the best way to repair this.
If I was to nail a small horizontal and vertical piece of wood to brand up the corner would cement stick to this sandstone if it has been keyed?

Or practice I need to utilize a different method for repair?

I am a noob as they say - washed plastering and fabricated templates and stuff at higher merely I have not washed outside stuff.

Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks in accelerate.

  3. The block in question is known as a quoin. Looks like a hefty flake of impairment.
Out of interest are these quoins, a full block built into the wall or but a facia?
To repair, it may accept two or iii applications, but you tin every bit mentioned build some form work around this piece, and build information technology up, I would personally not only form a key but as install some pins in the area to be repaired to help hold it.
You may have a problem matching information technology identically to the others, so it would be worth considering, cleaning the remainder of them up and masonry paint them all.
  4. Thanks very much for the reply.

At a guess I would say that they are facias, we have nether 28 days to complete on the holding, I will go and take another await tomorrow.

The brick extension at the forepart is built out from the sandstone house, I understand the method of pinning information technology makes a lot of sense and I gauge that layering the applications volition prevent sagging and dandy if I tried to fill the area in one go.

We will exist looking at painting them all a dissimilar colour and then that will assist to match it in amend when repaired.

Would I be better using a return mix with some lime or would you go with a similar mix as when building a wall I.E. 4 parts building sand to ane office cement.

Thank you once again for any assist - quoin I had never heard that mentioned earlier I will google it and discover some more about these.

    Thanks

  5. It looks like at that place's a wire coming out where some numpty BT engineer has used an SDS drill from within and diddled the surface off.

Y'all could likewise chisel the whole lot off and cut a piece of sandstone to fit.

BTW. Nitromorse volition go rid of that crimson paint.

  6. If they are facia merely, I would consider Joe'due south option of removing and replacing with new.
They are lots of different means and mixes that could repair the damage, do you know If the quoin is a GRC or even GRP production every bit these could exist complicated repairs.
  7. Distressing I do not understand the phrase GRC - GRP
I went to view the holding once again today and had a close look at the area in the photo.

Information technology turns out that the brick extension has sandstone blocks which have been covered over by the facia.

I could encounter where screws have been used to hold the facia's in place.
I judge I could look at replacing the lot with something dissimilar - providing we become the property, it is in the process of going through, so ii-3 weeks information technology should exist ours.

Thanks once again for the respond's, at that place are other horror stories within, then I know where to come when I need some communication.

    Thanks
